Sometimes when you lose, you actually win!

During the past two weeks some my friends, relatives or former students have shared their concerns because of setbacks regarding their dreams. My reply has been consistent: sometimes when you lose, you actually win. Moreover, sometimes when you win you actually lose. A former student entered the political race for a Board of Supervisor seat. He did not win the seat, yet, he did accomplish something special: he demonstrated that a man “common man should have an uncommon vision.” A friend shared that vandals’ had destroyed a home that he was considering purchasing, although he was disappointed in not securing this home he was grounded in his faith that God would always provide what is needed not necessarily what is desired. A former student who is a minister found his church facing a petition from their neighbors because there was increase in those attending Sunday services. Simply stated, there were too many cars. There is a common thread between these three stories: Those who “stand for something” will always face various forms of disappointment. Remember you are a ‘Phoenix’ and just as that mystical bird rose from the ashes so shall you. Sometimes when you lose, you actually win.

Dissappointment to me is a form of growth, we learn at a very young age the word "NO"!Society has put to much emphasis on winning, we as a soceity can learn alot from loosing. You taught us through sports that yes winning is fun, but what can we learn from defeat. This I carried throughout my life and has helped me deal with and except loosing on occasion.

I would be interested in how the word "no" has produced such negative results.~Cope

I don't think that the word "no" produces negative results, it just depends on how it's taken in lifes situations~MC
